The Shear-tailed Gray Tyrant is a unique flycatcher of southeastern South America, notable for its extremely long, deeply forked tail, reminiscent of a swallow. Its plumage is mostly grey.
Where to spot
Open woodlands, savannas, and forest edges in southeastern Brazil, Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina.

Look for its grey plumage and, most importantly, the extremely long, deeply forked tail which it often spreads in flight. It performs aerial sallies for insects.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed in the mornings when actively flying and displaying.
