Serna's Wren is a recently described species of wren, endemic to a very specific, restricted area in Colombia. It is a secretive bird of dry tropical forests.
Where to spot
Known only from a small area of dry forest along the lower Cauca River valley in northwestern Colombia.
How to spot
Requires visiting its specific dry forest habitat in Colombia. Listen for its distinct song and calls. Look for a wren foraging in dense, thorny vegetation; it can be elusive.
When to spot
A year-round resident within its highly restricted habitat. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon.
This species was only formally described in 2017, highlighting the continued discovery of new bird species in biodiverse regions.
