The Sangihe Scops Owl is a small, critically endangered owl endemic to Sangihe Island in Indonesia. It is a highly localized species facing severe habitat loss.
Where to spot
Endemic to Sangihe Island, north of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Inhabits lowland and montane forests.
How to spot
Extremely difficult to observe due to its rarity and restricted island habitat. Identification relies on its characteristic scops owl features and its very precise geographic range. Listening for calls at night in appropriate forest habitat.
When to spot
Strictly nocturnal. Observations are exceptionally rare.
