Where to spot
Endemic to the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil, particularly in Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Rio de Janeiro states.
How to spot
Look in the dense understory and bamboo thickets of humid montane forests. It can be shy, so patience and listening for its calls are essential. Its rufous tail is a key visual identifier, especially when it flicks it.
