Spotted
The Restinga Tyrannulet is an endangered species endemic to the 'restinga' coastal forest ecosystems of southeastern Brazil. It is a small, active bird of these unique habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to restinga (coastal forest) habitats in southeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Look for its small size and greenish plumage. Scan the mid-story and canopy of restinga vegetation. Listen for its distinctive, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Year-round, but observations are challenging due to its threatened status and habitat. Early mornings are often most productive.
'Restinga' forests are distinct coastal woodland formations on sandy soils, and this tyrannulet is specially adapted to and dependent on this specific, threatened habitat type.
