Nordmann's Greenshank is a large and distinctive shorebird with a slightly upturned bill and yellow-green legs. It is an endangered species, highly specialized to coastal mudflats and estuaries.
Where to spot
Breeds in eastern Russia (Sakhalin and Kamchatka) and winters primarily along the coastlines of Southeast Asia, from Vietnam to Malaysia, including parts of East Asia.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive large size, slightly upturned bill, and yellowish-green legs. Often found alone or in small groups on extensive mudflats, probing for invertebrates.
When to spot
Best seen during migration (April-May and August-October) at key staging sites, and throughout the non-breeding season in its wintering grounds.
