The Napo Sabrewing is an elegant hummingbird known for its iridescent green plumage and the subtle blue sheen on its throat and chest. It inhabits the humid foothill and lower montane forests of the eastern Andes.
Where to spot
Found on the eastern slopes of the Andes in eastern Ecuador and northern Peru, typically inhabiting humid foothill and lower montane forests.
How to spot
Look for it feeding at flowering trees and shrubs along forest edges, in clearings, or near streams. Binoculars are helpful to appreciate its subtle iridescence and identify it from similar species.
When to spot
A year-round resident in its range. Best observed during early morning and late afternoon when foraging activity is highest.
