Spotted
The Mt. Halcon Thrush (*Turdus thomassoni*) is a specific high-altitude form of Island Thrush, endemic to Mount Halcon on Mindoro Island in the Philippines. It is characterized by its dark, rather uniform plumage.
Where to spot
Exclusively found in the mossy, humid montane forests and stunted elfin forests on Mount Halcon, Mindoro, Philippines, at elevations above 1,500 meters.
How to spot
Climbing to its high-elevation habitat is necessary. Look for its dark appearance in the dim, damp forest. It often forages on the ground or in low vegetation. Listen for its calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Due to its high-altitude habitat, observation may be challenging, but it is typically most active during the early morning and late afternoon.
Its restricted range to a single, high-altitude peak makes it a particularly specialized and geographically isolated bird within the diverse Island Thrush complex.
