Meek's Pygmy-Parrot is a tiny, active parrot endemic to parts of the Bismarck Archipelago, known for its green plumage and characteristic climbing on tree trunks.
Where to spot
Lowland and hill rainforests on Manus Island and other islands in the Bismarck Archipelago, Papua New Guinea.
How to spot
Look for its very small size, overall green plumage with a yellowish wash on the underparts and head, and an orange patch on the forehead. Its behavior of climbing tree trunks using its tail as a brace is a key identifier.
When to spot
Active during the day. Observable year-round. Best seen while actively foraging.
This species is named after Albert S. Meek, a British ornithologist and collector, who first collected specimens of this parrot.
