The River Tyrant is a small, slender flycatcher exclusively found along rivers and streams in the Amazon basin. It has a dull brownish plumage and a pale belly.
Where to spot
Along sandy and gravelly riverbanks, islands, and shores of large rivers and streams in the Amazon and Orinoco basins of South America.
How to spot
Scan the immediate edges of rivers and streams. This bird often perches on low snags, rocks, or open ground near the water. It can be quite tame and allow close approach.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during low water periods when more sandbars and river edges are exposed.
