Spotted
The Little Bush Sparrow is a small, relatively plain sparrow species found in western and central Africa. It prefers dry savannas and open woodlands, often associated with baobab trees.
Where to spot
West and Central Africa, from Senegal to South Sudan. Inhabits dry savanna, open woodland, and cultivated areas, often near large trees like baobabs.
How to spot
Look for its small size and relatively drab, unstreaked plumage. It often forages in the mid-canopy of trees or on the ground. Binoculars are helpful to try and spot its subtle yellow throat spot.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the day.
While generally plain, like other bush sparrows it possesses a faint yellow spot on the throat, which can be difficult to observe in the field.
