The Indian Cuckooshrike is a common bird found across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Males are grey with a black eye-stripe, while females are duller with barring.
Where to spot
Widespread across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, inhabiting open woodlands, gardens, cultivated areas, and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for it in the mid-canopy of trees. Note the black eye-stripe and observe its characteristic wing-shuffling behavior upon landing. Listen for its distinctive calls.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, often seen singly or in pairs. It is a resident or migratory species, observable year-round in its range.

Despite its common name, this species is not related to cuckoos, but the 'cuckoo' part of its name is thought to refer to its undulating flight, reminiscent of a cuckoo.
