Hellmayr's Sunbird is a species that was formerly considered a subspecies of the Habesha Sunbird. Males feature iridescent green and blue with a red breast band. It inhabits similar dry habitats.
Where to spot
Found in South Sudan, Uganda, and possibly adjacent areas, inhabiting dry savannas and woodlands, often in acacia-dominated areas.
How to spot
Search for it in dry woodlands and scrub. Differentiating it from similar species might require attention to subtle plumage details and vocalizations. Use binoculars.
