The Grey Warbler is a small, highly vocal, and widespread bird endemic to New Zealand. Despite its name, it has a rather subtle grey-brown plumage.
Where to spot
Found throughout the North and South Islands of New Zealand, as well as on many offshore islands, inhabiting forests, woodlands, scrub, and suburban gardens.
How to spot
Listen for its highly distinctive, ascending and descending 'ti-toti-toti-to' song. Look for its small size and constantly flicking wings while it forages actively in foliage at all levels.
When to spot
Active year-round during daylight hours. Its distinctive, undulating song is frequently heard, particularly during the breeding season (spring to early summer).
