Spotted
The Grey Grasswren is a highly cryptic and elusive grasswren, known for its subtle grey plumage and preference for dense, remote grassland habitats in inland Australia.
Where to spot
Found in isolated, dense lignum and cane grass habitats along ephemeral watercourses in arid inland Queensland and New South Wales, Australia.
How to spot
Requires immense patience and a quiet approach. Scan the base of dense tussocks of grass or lignum, looking for rapid, mouse-like movements. Listen for its faint, high-pitched calls, which are often the first clue.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most easily observed in the early morning or late afternoon when foraging activity is typically higher.
