The Grey-winged Blackbird (*Turdus boulboul*) is a striking thrush found in the Himalayas and Southeast Asia. Males are glossy black with contrasting grey wings, while females are duller brown with a similar wing pattern.

Where to spot

Inhabits broadleaf and mixed forests, particularly at higher elevations in the Himalayas, ranging from Afghanistan to Southeast Asia, including parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan, and China.

How to spot

Look for the male's distinct black body and grey wings. They often forage on the forest floor, flipping leaf litter. Listening for their rich, musical song is an excellent way to locate them.

When to spot

Resident in many areas, but some populations undertake altitudinal migrations, moving to lower elevations in winter. Best observed during spring and summer when breeding and more vocal.
