Spotted
The Grey-hooded Bush Tanager is an elegant tanager found in humid montane forests of the Andes. It is characterized by its soft grey head, contrasting with a greenish body.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests and forest edges from Venezuela and Colombia south through Ecuador and Peru to Bolivia, typically between 1,500 and 3,000 meters.
How to spot
Look for it in mixed-species flocks moving through the canopy or mid-story. Pay attention to its grey head and reddish bill, although the bill color can be hard to discern without good light.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best seen during morning hours when bird activity is generally higher and mixed flocks are more active.
This species is known to frequently follow mixed-species flocks, feeding on insects and small fruits, often appearing quite high in the canopy, though it can descend lower.
