Spotted
The Grey Honeyeater is a plain, inconspicuous honeyeater of arid and semi-arid Australia, characterized by its overall grey plumage and a fine bill. It is known for its soft, melodic calls.
Where to spot
Arid and semi-arid acacia woodlands, mulga, and saltbush plains across inland Australia.
How to spot
This is a very challenging bird to spot due to its camouflage and quiet nature. Listen intently for its soft, high-pitched, melancholic piping calls. Once heard, slowly scan the foliage for subtle movements.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, but its calls are often heard more clearly in the quieter parts of the morning or late afternoon.
Despite its name and subtle appearance, its beautiful, quiet calls are highly distinctive and often the best way to locate this elusive bird.
