Spotted
The Grassland Sparrow is a small, streaky brown sparrow found in the grasslands and savannas of South America. It is often challenging to spot due to its cryptic plumage.
Where to spot
Widespread across grasslands and savannas of South America, from Colombia and Venezuela south to Argentina. Found in open grasslands, cultivated fields, and pastures.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground in dense grass. Its streaky brown plumage provides excellent camouflage. Listen for its simple, buzzy song, often given from a low perch.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most vocal and active during the local breeding season, which often coincides with the rainy season.
