Fülleborn's Sunbird is a distinctive species from the East African highlands, with males featuring a unique pattern of iridescent green, blue, and a broad crimson breast band that contrasts with a yellowish belly.
Where to spot
Found in montane forests, forest edges, and cultivated areas in southwestern Tanzania and northern Malawi, primarily in the Udzungwa and Livingstone Mountains.
How to spot
Search for it in the mid to upper canopy of montane forests or at flowering shrubs on forest edges. The combination of its crimson breast and yellowish belly is a key identification mark.
When to spot
Active year-round. Observations are generally best during early mornings when the birds are actively foraging among flowering plants.
Named after Friedrich Fülleborn, a German physician and naturalist, this sunbird is a representative species of the rich avian diversity found in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania.
