Where to spot
Widespread in the high-altitude páramo, puna, and stunted montane forest edges along the Andes, from Colombia south to Argentina.
How to spot
Look for its prominent supercilium and typical upright posture in open, high-altitude habitats. Listen for its distinctive, often chattering or trilled calls.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, especially in the mornings. It is a resident species, observable year-round.
