Strictly limited to the treeless, arid and semi-arid shrublands and open woodlands of the Nullarbor Plain in Western Australia and South Australia.
How to spot
Focus on areas with low, dense scrub or saltbush. They are often detected by their distinctive calls before being seen. Look for them foraging cautiously on the ground.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, particularly in the cooler parts of the morning and late afternoon. They are resident birds and observable year-round.
