Where to spot
Rocky cliffs, mountains, and open grasslands of southern Africa (South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe). Often restricted to specific breeding colonies.
How to spot
Look for its large size, pale, almost white plumage (especially when adult), and long neck with a pale ruff. Often seen soaring in thermals or congregating at communal roosts and breeding cliffs.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight. Look for large colonies at nesting sites or soaring over open country, especially during warmer parts of the day.
