Spotted
The Dusky Leaf Warbler is a small, rather plain warbler, characterized by its uniform dusky-brown plumage and a faint pale supercilium. It is a secretive bird of dense scrub and undergrowth.
Where to spot
Breeds across northern Eurasia. Winters in South and Southeast Asia. Found in dense scrub, willow thickets, and forest undergrowth, especially near water.
How to spot
Look for this elusive bird low down in dense vegetation. Its calls are often harsh and distinctive, a more reliable way to find it than visual detection.
When to spot
Best observed during spring and autumn migration across its vast range, and during winter in its southern wintering grounds.
