Where to spot
Inhabits the understory of humid lowland and foothill forests in the southwestern Amazon basin, particularly southeastern Peru and western Brazil.
How to spot
Look in dense forest undergrowth. Listen for its whistled calls and songs. The brown head is a key identifying feature, particularly in males.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon.
This species is sometimes found in association with army ant swarms, but it is also known to forage independently in dense thickets.
