The Bronze-winged Jacana is a beautiful wetland bird found across South and Southeast Asia, named for the iridescent bronze sheen on its wings and back. It is a striking sight in its aquatic habitat.
Where to spot
Inhabits freshwater wetlands, lakes, and ponds with extensive floating vegetation throughout South and Southeast Asia.
How to spot
Look for them gracefully walking on floating vegetation. The iridescent bronze wings, black head, and white supercilium (eyebrow) are key identification features.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round in its resident range. Most active during daylight hours.
This jacana uses its long toes to distribute its weight, allowing it to walk effortlessly over lily pads and other floating vegetation in search of insects and seeds.
