Spotted
The Pale Flycatcher (*Bradornis microrhynchus*, now *Melaenornis microrhynchus*) is a small, relatively pale African flycatcher. It has a light greyish-brown plumage, a paler belly, and often a subtle white supercilium.
Where to spot
Found in dry acacia woodlands, savannas, and shrublands across eastern Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
How to spot
Look for its overall pale greyish-brown coloration. Watch for its characteristic flycatching behavior from an exposed perch, often low down in a bush. Listen for its thin, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Resident throughout its range, active year-round. It is often observed throughout the day, sallying from prominent perches to catch insects.
Its name 'microrhynchus' refers to its 'small bill', which is a subtle feature that distinguishes it from some other flycatcher species.
