Spotted
The Glossy Blue Flycatcher is a vibrant, iridescent blue flycatcher endemic to the forests of Príncipe Island. It is a small, active bird that gleans insects from foliage.
Where to spot
Endemic to Príncipe Island, São Tomé and Príncipe, West Africa. Inhabits lowland and montane forests.
How to spot
Search the mid-story and undergrowth of humid forests. Look for its brilliant blue plumage and restless movements as it forages. Listen for its high-pitched, buzzing calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the breeding season when pairs are more vocal and active.
This species is a good example of island endemism, having evolved unique characteristics due to its isolation on Príncipe.
