Found in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. It inhabits montane evergreen forests, including mossy forests, from lowlands to high elevations, often in areas with large trees.

Look for its active movements in the mid to upper canopy, often on smaller branches. Listen for its distinctive, high-pitched calls. Its vibrant azure blue plumage and contrasting belly are unmistakable identification features.
