The Blue-naped Parrot (Tanygnathus lucionensis) is a vibrant parrot species native to the Philippines and some Indonesian islands. It is characterized by its green body and a distinctive blue patch on the nape.
Where to spot
Found in lowland forests, forest edges, cultivated areas, and sometimes urban parks across the Philippines and some islands in northeastern Borneo and Sulawesi.
How to spot
Look for its bright green plumage with the prominent blue patch on the back of its head. Listen for its loud, screeching calls, which are characteristic of the species and often betray its presence.
When to spot
Most active during early morning and late afternoon when flying to feeding grounds or returning to roosts. They are resident birds.
