Spotted
The Black Nunbird is an entirely black puffbird with a prominent, often bright red or orange-red bill. These social birds are typically found in flocks in the canopy of lowland forests.
Where to spot
Lowland humid forests, forest edges, and clearings, mainly in the Guianas (Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana) and parts of northern Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for their distinctive, often cacophonous, whistling calls to locate a flock. Once located, scan the upper and mid-canopy, as they often perch conspicuously on exposed branches.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, but calls are most common in the early morning and late afternoon.

Black Nunbirds are quite vocal and often give loud, whistling calls in unison, which helps groups maintain contact as they forage through the forest.
