The Stripe-backed Sparrow is a small, streaky sparrow found in the dry forests and scrublands of southwestern Mexico. It has a dark central crown stripe and a distinctly streaked back.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Pacific coast of southwestern Mexico. Inhabits dry deciduous forests, thorn scrub, and arid riparian areas.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground or in low bushes. The streaked back and head pattern are good identifiers. Listen for its simple, repetitive song.

Resident year-round. Most active and vocal during the breeding season, which typically occurs during the rainy season (summer).
