Highly localized to a small area of humid montane cloud forest in northern Peru, typically at mid-elevations.

Requires significant patience and quiet observation in its dense habitat. Listen for its unique vocalizations and look for the subtle white wing patches if it offers a clear view.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best sought during the early morning when its distinct song may be heard.
