Spotted
This hybrid combines the distinct head patterning of the Bar-headed Goose with the grey body and white forehead of the White-fronted Goose. Its appearance is highly variable, often showing some degree of head barring and belly speckling.
Where to spot
Most commonly found in zoological collections, waterfowl parks, or as escapees in areas with feral goose populations worldwide. Natural occurrences in the wild are rare, given their distinct native ranges.
How to spot
Look for a goose with a grey body and a white forehead patch, but with an unusual head pattern that might include faint dark bars or a darker nape, reminiscent of the Bar-headed Goose. Belly barring typical of White-fronted Geese may also be present.
When to spot
Year-round in captive settings. In the wild, observation is opportunistic and depends on the seasonal presence of the parent species.
