Where to spot
Found in East Africa, primarily Kenya and Tanzania. Inhabits dry bushland, thorny scrub, and acacia woodlands in arid and semi-arid regions.
How to spot
Listen for its distinct, often rapid, chattering calls. Look for groups of plain brownish-grey birds moving through dense thorny vegetation. Its pale eye can stand out in good light.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon. Often observed in small, cohesive groups.
This babbler is known for its ability to extract insects from hard-to-reach places within thorny bushes, thanks to its agile movements.
