Where to spot
Endemic to Socotra Island, Yemen. Inhabits arid shrubland, open woodlands, and wadis.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, low-pitched, repeated hoot. Look for its small size, mottled brown plumage, and prominent ear tufts. Nocturnal spotlighting in suitable arid habitats.
When to spot
Strictly nocturnal. Most active from dusk to midnight.
