How to spot
Observation is very challenging due to its nocturnal habits and dense forest habitat. Requires spotlighting at night in specific forest areas. Look for its mottled brown plumage blending into the leaf litter.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its resident island range. Most active at night when foraging. Day sightings are very rare.
This woodcock is a nocturnal feeder, using its long bill to probe the forest floor for earthworms and invertebrates under the cover of darkness.
