Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests of Central America and northwestern South America, from Costa Rica to Colombia and western Ecuador.

Look for males at known lek sites in the forest understory. The prominent white ruff on the male is unmistakable, and listening for their mechanical sounds helps locate them.
