Spotted
The Sumatran Striped Babbler is a small, secretive species endemic to Sumatra, characterized by faint streaking on its crown and underparts. It prefers dense undergrowth in submontane forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It primarily inhabits submontane evergreen forests, preferring dense undergrowth, bamboo thickets, and areas near ravines.
How to spot
Listen for its relatively quiet, high-pitched calls. Look for its faint streaking and general skulking behavior low in dense vegetation. Patience is key as it is quite shy.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active and vocal during the early morning and late afternoon, and especially during its breeding season.
Its 'striped' pattern is quite subtle, making it an identification challenge, often requiring keen observation or reliance on vocalizations.
