The Rufous-winged Fulvetta is a distinctive babbler, easily identified by its prominent rufous wing panel and contrasting black cap. It is an active and social species, often encountered in mixed-species flocks.
Where to spot
Distributed across the eastern Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia, including Northeast India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and southern China. Inhabits montane evergreen and temperate forests.
How to spot
Look for its rufous wing patch and black cap, often foraging acrobatically in the mid-story and upper canopy. Listen for its clear, melodious, and often complex song, as well as varied chattering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during early morning and late afternoon, often as part of bird waves.
This species has a particularly striking rufous wing patch that contrasts beautifully with its otherwise drab body and dark cap, making it a visual highlight.
