Where to spot
Distributed across the eastern Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia, including Northeast India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and southern China. Inhabits montane evergreen and temperate forests.
How to spot
Look for its rufous wing patch and black cap, often foraging acrobatically in the mid-story and upper canopy. Listen for its clear, melodious, and often complex song, as well as varied chattering calls.
