Spotted
The Rufous-headed Thrush (*Turdus ruficeps*) is a distinctive thrush species from the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia. It is easily recognized by its bright rufous-orange head and breast, contrasting with a grey back and white belly.
Where to spot
Inhabits montane evergreen and mixed forests, particularly at mid-elevations in parts of Southeast Asia, including Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra.
How to spot
Look for the unmistakable rufous head and breast. It forages both on the ground for invertebrates and in fruit-bearing trees. Its relatively clear and musical song can help in detection.
When to spot
Resident year-round in its montane habitat. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons when it is actively foraging and vocalizing, especially during the breeding season.
This colorful thrush often perches quite openly, allowing for good views of its striking head and breast coloration.
