Where to spot
Found in mountainous regions from Turkey and the Caucasus through Central Asia to the Himalayas and western China. It inhabits alpine meadows, rocky scree, and sparse vegetation at high elevations.
How to spot
Scan high-altitude rocky slopes and open areas. The red forehead is a key identification feature. Look for them foraging on the ground or on low bushes.

Visible year-round in its high-altitude habitat. Most active during the breeding season (summer). May descend slightly to lower elevations in winter.
This species is one of the highest-breeding passerines in the Palearctic, often found near the snowline.
