The Plumbeous Tyrant is a medium-sized flycatcher with a grayish-blue (plumbeous) coloration, found in montane regions of South America. Males are largely uniform grey, while females are browner.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests, forest edges, and second growth in the Andes, from northern Peru south to Argentina.
How to spot
Look for its overall gray plumage, which can appear bluish in certain light. It typically perches upright and sallies for insects from an exposed perch. Its calls are distinctive.
When to spot
Year-round resident in its Andean habitat. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons.
This species often exhibits territorial behavior, actively defending its breeding area with vocalizations and aggressive aerial displays.
