The Long-tailed Paradise Whydah is a dramatic brood-parasitic finch found in Central and East Africa. Breeding males possess immensely long, broad tail feathers and distinct buff coloration.
Where to spot
Distributed in savannas and woodlands of Central and East Africa, from Nigeria to Uganda.
How to spot
Look for breeding males in open woodland or savanna. The very long, broad tail and buffy crown/nape are diagnostic. Often seen near Orange-winged Pytilias.
When to spot
Year-round. Breeding males are most visible during the rainy season when their tail plumes are fully grown and they are displaying.
