The Junin Spinetail is a highly localized and threatened ovenbird found exclusively in high-altitude scrublands around Lake Junin in Peru. It has a dull, brownish plumage.

High-altitude scrubland, often near wetlands, exclusively around Lake Junin in central Peru.
How to spot
Given its rarity and specific habitat, local guides are highly recommended. Look in dense, low scrub near the lake. Listen for its distinctive calls, which may be the only way to detect it.
When to spot
Year-round, but finding it requires focused effort within its very limited habitat. Mornings are often best.
Due to its very restricted range and specific habitat requirements, this species is considered critically endangered.
