Where to spot
Widespread in humid lowland and foothill forests across northern South America, including the Amazon basin, the Guianas, and parts of the Atlantic Forest.
How to spot
Listen for the distinctive, loud rustling sounds of leaves being thrown aside. Patiently observe the forest floor in shaded areas, looking for its bold grey throat and active foraging movements.
When to spot
Active year-round, primarily during the day. Often most vocal and active in the early morning or after rain.
Its foraging method is so vigorous that it often creates noticeable cleared patches on the forest floor, a sign of its recent activity.
