Spotted
The Grey-sided Babbler is a medium-sized babbler characterized by its grey flanks and olive-brown upperparts. It is a fairly common and vocal species found in various forest types.
Where to spot
Widespread across South and Southeast Asia, including parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Inhabits broadleaf evergreen, deciduous, and secondary forests, from lowlands to montane elevations.
How to spot
Look for its grey sides and olive back. It's often found in mixed-species flocks, actively gleaning insects from foliage. Listen for its varied and often loud vocalizations, including whistles, chattering, and alarm calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round throughout its extensive range. Most vocal during the breeding season. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons.
This species has a strong tendency to join mixed-species foraging flocks, particularly during the non-breeding season, to enhance foraging efficiency and predator detection.
