Where to spot
Distributed across South and Southeast Asia, including parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. Inhabits diverse forest types, bamboo, and secondary growth.
How to spot
Look for its grey head and general olive-brown coloration. It is often found in mixed-species foraging flocks, moving busily through the undergrowth and mid-story. Listen for its varied, often chirpy calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during early morning and late afternoon, often joining mixed-species flocks.
This species exhibits considerable geographical variation in plumage across its wide range, leading to several recognized subspecies.
