Widespread in the central highlands of New Guinea, encompassing both Papua New Guinea and Indonesian Papua. It occupies montane forests, forest edges, and disturbed areas across various altitudes.
How to spot
Identify by its bare, yellowish-orange facial skin (which can vary in intensity and size) and its olive-brown plumage with a hint of streaking. Listen for its loud, ringing calls often given from prominent perches within the forest.
When to spot

Despite its 'common' name, this species exhibits considerable variation across its wide range, with several recognized subspecies differing subtly in plumage and facial skin color.
