Spotted
Clementina's Sunbird is a distinctive species with males boasting iridescent blue-green, a bright red breast band, and a yellow belly. It is restricted to specific island habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia, particularly on Timor and its surrounding smaller islands, inhabiting open woodlands, savannas, and gardens.
How to spot
Relatively common in suitable habitats on its island range. Look for its bright plumage, especially the red breast and yellow belly. Listen for its high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during morning and late afternoon foraging bouts. Look for it around flowering plants and trees.
This species is a good example of island endemism, having evolved in isolation on relatively small landmasses, leading to unique morphological and genetic characteristics.
